E-ZBorrow Best Practices in Response to COVID-19

E-ZBorrow is not only an actively used service, it is also an active community that strives to support each other. As we are all interested in supporting our patrons and the larger E-ZBorrow community, the E-ZBorrow Advisory Council recommends the following modifications:

 

  1. Billing should be suspended from at least March 2020-June 2021.
  2. With the understanding that each PALCI school is experiencing changes to their semester schedules and added remote learning, loan periods should be extended wherever possible, with the understanding that the borrowing library may still need time after that to accommodate issues with retrieving materials. 
  3. Initiate contact with the lending library if you cannot return the item due to closure or limited services.
  4. If a lending library needs an item to be returned, they are responsible for contacting the borrowing library. It is important to remember that borrowing libraries may be facing limited staffing, possible closures, or other issues that prevent them from returning the item.
  5. Receiving libraries are responsible for quarantining items, consistent with your local practice.
  6. With the understanding that staffing may present challenges, all libraries should still endeavor to process or update requests within 48 hours in Relais as shipping and quarantining will increase turnaround time.
  7. If you are having issues filling requests within this timeline, it is important to reach out to PALCI for assistance.
  8. Unless the lending library reaches out directly about an item, assume that messages you receive regarding returns or billing are automated.
  9. Extend grace and patience whenever possible within the community (to people and books).
