ILLiad ReShare Server Addon

Page history last edited by James Robinson 2 years, 7 months ago

The ILLiad ReShare Server Addon is now officially available from Atlas. Information about the addon - including downloads of the latest version, installation instructions, and release notes - can be found here:

ILLiad ReShare Server Addon - Atlas Systems

Important Information Prior to Installation:

  • This addon is a first release. It was designed to provide basic functionality between ReShare and ILLiad in time for the beginning of fall sessions. This is also the first time any other resource sharing management tool has connected to the ReShare environment. This means that there may be bugs that we find, functionality that can be improved, and enhancements that will be desired. Initial tests suggest that changes to both the addon and to PALCI's ReShare implementation are necessary before this addon works with the same efficiency and effectiveness that users of the ILLiad Relais D2D Server Addon came to expect. Please keep that in mind when deciding to install this addon
  • Synchronizing patron authentication information is crucial. This addon works by pulling information from the ILLiad request record and the requesting patron's record in order to generate a request in the ReShare environment. When setting up the addon, staff will identify the specific field in ILLiad that will be sent to ReShare as the Requesting User ID. This must be the same data point that your NCIP connection is expecting to receive in a LookupUser message and that your SSO is passing along/your patrons are manually entering when submitting a request via VuFind. If these do not match (e.g. you've set up the addon to pass along an e-mail address as the patron identifier, but your NCIP connection with ReShare is expecting a patron ID number), the request will appear as "New" in the Request module of your ReShare tenant, and it will not progress until staff manually edit the request by including a valid Requesting User ID.

What does the ILLiad ReShare Server Addon do?

The simplest answer is that when a request comes into ILLiad, the addon can look for requestable copies of the requested item in the ReShare environment. If a requestable copy is found, a request for that item is generated in the ReShare environment on that patrons behalf. If another ReShare library is able to fill the request, the ILLiad request is closed out, and the request is managed in the ReShare environment from that point forward. If no copies are available, the ILLiad request is updated to reflect this, and staff continue to work towards filling the request the way they would any other ILLiad request.

More information about the specifics of these processes and the different ways they can fit into various ILLiad workflows can be found in Atlas' documentation for the ILLiad ReShare Server Addon.

What information is required to install the ILLiad ReShare Server Addon?

When setting up the addon, libraries will need to provide some basic information about their ReShare tenant. Some of this information is the same across all PALCI ReShare users, some is specific to each tenant, and some of the information will be determined by staff as they are configuring the addon.

Universal PALCI/ReShare Information

Tenant-Specific Information from Index Data

ReshareAPIUrlReshareTenant, and OpenURLTenant are all values that are specific to each ReShare tenant. Index Data has provided that information for each PALCI library currently set up in ReShare. A spreadsheet with that information can be found at the following link.

NOTE: Please get these values from the spreadsheet below instead of deriving them from your tenant. These fields require very specific letter casing which is only found in the spreadsheet.

Tenant-Specific Information from the Library

The following addon configuration fields are specific to each institution and will need to be generated & provided by library staff:

    • NVTGC
    • ReShareAPIUsername & ReShareAPIPassword: Library staff should create a new staff user in their ReShare tenant specifically for the purposes of the API connection between ReShare and ILLiad. Index Data has provided documentation on their recommended setup for this new user account, including what permission set this user should be given in order for the addon to work properly.

    • SearchingMonitorQueueNotFoundQueueUnfilledQueue,  & RequestSentQueue: These are the ILLiad queues where ILLiad requests will be sent based on the status of the request in ReShare
    • PatronIDField: This is the field that will be used when assigning a Requesting User ID to the ReShare request. The information in this field must match the information your LMS is expecting to receive via a LookupUser NCIP message from ReShare. If it does not match, the request will be given a "New" status in ReShare and will require staff intervention to progress.
    • PickupLocationLookupValue: The field from the ILLiad request where the request's pickup location can be found.
    • PickupLocationLookupMapping: Staff will need to map each pickup location in ILLiad to a single pickup location in ReShare. Each mapping will follow the pattern of ILLiad Pickup Location=ReShare Pickup Location Slug (e.g. Charles=TEM_MAIN). Pickup Location Slugs can be found in the ReShare Directory entries of your pickup locations. A single comma and a space should be used to separate the mappings. NOTE: The same ReShare pickup location can be assigned to multiple ILLiad pickup locations, but they each need to be mapped out separately. However, each ILLiad pickup location can only be assigned a single ReShare pickup location.
      • Example: Pitt has "Bradford Lending - Circulation Desk" and "Bradford Lending - Ship It" available as pickup location options for ReShare patrons in VuFind. If they only have a single Bradford pickup option in ILLiad, they can only assign one of these ReShare locations to it, and must decide between the two.

Who should I contact with support questions?

The ILLiad ReShare Server Addon was fully developed by Atlas Systems and is available to all ILLiad customers free of charge. As such, they are the best people contact if you have any questions about how to use or troubleshoot the addon. You can contact them through any channels you usually use to contact them regarding ILLiad support.
